Is Your Pet Food Healthy?

As a pet owner, there is much competition when it comes to healthy foods. A pet parent can get confused. Slick photos of dogs and cats on the cover with them running, makes you feel warm inside, and who wouldn't? It would be worth your while however to do some checking. I know, who has time, right?

First, there is a very important ingredient, taurine which needs to be included in any dry or moist food. Why? Kittens who were deficient in taurine were known to have gone blind. When taurine supplements were given, they were able to see again. It is also good for the heart. Dogs must have taurine in either their meat or fish. If you see that a company claims they are "100 nutritional", but listed without it, reconsider.  "Who cares, you say, how does this matter to me? Don't dog food manufacturers add it in anyway?" Unfortunately, food manufacturers only care about the bottom line, not your animals health, so no not all companies add taurine.

Life's Abundance dog and cat food includes vegetables, fruits and meats. It encompasses all 4 food groups. Visit www.lifesabundance.com/Pets/Dogs.aspx?realname=20067679&cat=4&hdr=&Ath=True and listen to Dr. Jane Bicks, veterinarian for over 15 years.

LIFE's ABUNDANCE INGREDIENTS

I gave Life's Abundance on my beagle and he was doing well, until I realized that due to his pancreatitis, he was no longer able to use a higher fat/protein diet. Talk to your veterinarian before making any dietary changes. Do not be dis-suaded by this! Life's Abundance is very healthy and most dogs do wonderfully on it. In fact, it can add 5-7 years to their lives.

Let me share with you what items to look for in a healthy dog food:

  • chicken
  • eggs
  • turkey
  • liver
  • fruits
  • vegetables
  • grape seed extract
  • chemical free
  • hormone free
  • steroid free
  • flaxseed - also helps tumors
  • fish oil
  • plant
  • 5 friendly bacteria
  • antioxidants which are responsible for helping 60 diseas

Now, read carefully and memorize the ingredients you need to stay away from:

  • artificial coloring
  • wheat germ
  • corn
  • gluten
  • bone meal
  • chemicals, often not listed

*Be on alert if you see a dog or cat food claiming they are 100% nutritional. It just may mean that the food is adequate, but not healthy. It is important to note that many manufacturers use the cheapest food available, so be watchful.
